Future
All decentralised services, regardless of their purpose, share a common set of requirements. It is always desirable that a service be:
Highly available.
Responsive.
Capable of handling high throughput.
Capable of recovering from failures without dropping service requests.
Asynchronous Relay is an ideal first service for the Sylo Network because it relies on all of these properties and provides evidence of completed work that allows these properties to be measured and directly incentivised. As a result, Sylo Node operators will invest to ensure that their Nodes perform well, as to maximise their income from relay.
In the future, when Sylo Nodes run many independent services, the additional services will run on Nodes where investment in Node quality has already taken place. This will make subsequent services more straightforward to develop, because properties that needed explicit incentivisation for the relay service can now be relied upon by default, due to the existing incentive structure.
